The "Carolina Tracker" tool went online in December 2020 to promote understanding of exactly how COVID-19 has negatively affected our communities. This tool helps planners construct responses to the pandemic, and provides a base for the justification of those responses. Learn how it is being used and how it can be replicated to support policy development. Find out how these indicators were used in specific communities, which indicators proved most useful, and ways in which similar data-driven approaches to community strategies can be constructed elsewhere. Stories include a focus on changing employment patterns, housing trends, childcare services, travel patterns, and incidences of domestic violence, and suggest where the trends are heading. Explore the value that can be created through collaboration between practicing planners working in communities and action-oriented planning research.
The "Carolina Tracker" provides access to data that broadens the view on how the pandemic is revealing already existing economic and social disparities, and how the pandemic impacts social behaviors, education patterns, inequities, and racial discrimination.
