More Course Details

The 2021 opening keynote speaker is Valerie Jarrett, a champion of equality and opportunity and president of the Barack Obama Foundation. In a question-and-answer format, Jarrett explores the role of planning in infrastructure, housing, COVID recovery, and the overall role of planners as leaders. APA President Leo Asuncion, Jr., AICP, poses the questions.

During her time in Chicago as commissioner of planning and development and chairwoman of the Chicago Transit Authority, Jarrett maintained a strong focus on community and neighborhood development. She weighs in on the future of transit, COVID recovery, housing needs, her views on how planning can lead recovery, and how planners can help elected officials better understand the importance and need for supporting planning.
