Engagement Evolution: Blueprint for Equitable Planning

Course Details

Comprehensive Plans are fantastic opportunities to launch big public engagement initiatives, and when done well, can lead to organizational shifts in how local governments inform, engage, and understand their residents. Buncombe County has implemented a culture of engagement that started with the engagement tactics that come with most planning studies, but quickly incorporated the efforts of every department to create numerous economies of scope and a stronger relationship with the community.

During this session, Buncombe County will share specific challenges they faced and tools they used to overcome them, as well as the opportunities that lie ahead. PublicInput serves as the central platform for all of the County’s resident interactions, and attendees will learn how they are consolidating the myriad of existing processes that exist in most local governments to better understand who they are engaging with, and who they are not.

  • Increase representation in engagement by identifying and filling in gaps in participation.
