Key to this project was the prioritization of the 1.5 million dollar investment of Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) funds by the City of Tulsa. It is imperative planners understand how these funds can be used and the underlying planning documents that enable their use. The key underlying planning documents that prioritized these investments: are the city's Capital Improvements Plan and the Housing and Urban Development Consolidated Plan.

Planners should be at the table and engaged in the development of these plans to ensure all community needs are represented. Tying planning documents together and identifying how and toward what needs federal dollars can be applied toward are critical skills to develop when working with underserved communities to solve critical challenges and foster lasting change.
