PlaNYC Getting Sustainability Done: From Initiatives to Implementation
Course Details
This course delivers an overview of 2023 PlaNYC — New York City's long-term strategic climate plan to achieve a cleaner, greener city by growing green economic opportunities, protecting residents from climate threats, and improving overall quality of life in environmental justice communities. The course will discuss lessons from the NYC's Mayor's Office of Climate and Environmental Justice (MOCEJ) and interagency task force efforts to increase collaboration and accountability when executing, monitoring, and implementing the City's climate action initiatives.
Specifically, the course will address how cities can incorporate "climate budgeting" and science-based climate considerations into their budget decision-making processes. It will also evaluate how actions and spending today contribute to longer-term climate targets. Lastly, the course will highlight how public agencies can jumpstart a green economy transition by unlocking investments in environmental justice communities and monitoring the distributional equity of programs implemented through climate action plans such as PlaNYC.
