Navigating Politics, Maintaining Ethics
Course Details
Hear some fictionalized real-world experiences that put the AICP Code of Ethics and Professional Conduct to the test in a political world. Explore techniques to proactively establish commitment to our ethics (e.g. by displaying the Code of Ethics in the workplace and integrating ethics as a discussion topic at staff meetings), navigate when we are asked to take actions that may be questionable or outright in conflict with our professional ethics, and become a respected, ethical leader who is viewed as knowledgeable, fair, and impartial.
Ask questions and share personal experiences of being an ethical planner in a political world. The presentation, while mindful and respectful of the spectrum of political beliefs among planners and communities, challenges participants to set aside their politics and act as a fair referee for communities.

- Understand when political pressure comes into direct conflict with the ethics of a professional planner.
- Learn ways to communicate with high integrity — your uncompromised commitment to practicing planning ethically, equitably, and fairly.
