Cailean is an experienced planner and researcher whose career includes a half decade in the academic, non-profit, government, and private sectors specializing in meaningful engagement, as well as transportation and community health projects. Combining this research and engagement experience, Cailean is working on the Healthy Places Program and the BassCenter for Transformative Placemaking at Project for Public Spaces (PPS). Before joining PPS as Project Associate, she had been a researcher at a major university, grants manager, and a principal planner with the City of Newark, NJ (where she resides). In 2016, she was the project manager that drafted New Jersey's first ever Health andWellness comprehensive plan element as a part of the American Planning Associations' Plan4Health initiative. Shortly after that, she was appointed as one of the founding chairs of the Healthy Communities Interest Group. As the chair, Cailean brings together people across the U.S. to share/expand resources and provide educational opportunities at the intersection of health and planning. Cailean is on the executive committee of the New Jersey Chapter of the American Planning Association and is very involved with her community as a board member of Brick City Bike Collective and as a mentor for Big Brother Big Sister.
