Luis Guajardo, AICP is the urban policy research manager at Rice University's Kinder Institute for Urban Research in Houston, TX. He is a first-generation Mexican-American with binational roots and lived experiences growing up along the U.S. Mexico border as a citizen of both countries. Luis' planning experience and research interests lie at the intersection of urban economics, policy, and design in forming more inclusive and sustainable communities, while naturally gravitating toward bilingual public engagement and the disconnect between planning institutions and historically under-resourced communities. Luis is also raising two primarily Spanish-speaking kids [not to worry, they learn plenty of English at school] and reliving many of the societal barriers and opportunities as it relates to language but from a different vantage point.
