Michael Zehner is a certified planner under the American Institute of Certified Planners, and since February 2019 has served as the Director of Planning and Development for the Town of Nags Head, North Carolina. Michael has been a professional planner for over 18 years, and in addition to experience in North Carolina, Michael has worked for municipalities in Georgia, Massachusetts, and Virginia. In his current role with the Town of Nags Head, Michael is responsible for managing traditional planning, zoning, and community development municipal functions, but given the Town's coastal location and unique geography, he is also involved in hazard mitigation, resiliency, and environmental planning, which includes oversight of the Town's septic health initiative. Michael holds a B.A. in Political Science from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University (Virginia Tech; 1999).
